The Rt Revd Graham James
Bishop of Norwich

Bishop Graham hails from Cornwall where many members of his family worked in the tin mining industry. He read history at the University of Lancaster before training for the ordained ministry at Cuddesdon College in Oxford.

He was ordained in Peterborough in 1975 and later worked in Welwyn Garden City as a team vicar. He then moved to Church House, Westminster, where he had responsibility for overseeing the selection procedures for candidates for ordination in the Church of England. In 1987 he was appointed as Chaplain to the Most Reverend Robert Runcie, the Archbishop of Canterbury at that time.

Bishop Graham was consecrated Bishop of St Germans in 1993, returning to his native Cornwall. He was enthroned as the 71st Bishop of Norwich on 29th January 2000.

He is Chairman of the Central Religious Advisory Committee who advise the BBC and ITV on all matters related to religious broadcasting and has a membership drawn from all the churches and the other world faith communities. Ofcom has recently adopted the Committee to advise it in its regulatory work in the commercial sector, making it unique in its responsibilities.

The Bishop is a member of the Archbishops' Council and Chairman of the Church of England's Ministry Division.

The Bishop of Norwich is assisted by the Suffragan Bishop of Lynn, the Rt Revd James Langstaff and the Suffragan Bishop of Thetford, the Rt Revd David Atkinson
