Advice regarding church textiles is available at Diocesan House on the first Wednesday of each month (except in January) from 10am – noon when a small team of knowledgeable volunteers are on hand to help with any queries.
In order to ‘help churches help themselves’ with their textile queries, we can advise on conservation and repairs, the making of new items and other textile needs. A large range of resources suitable for ecclesiastical items is available including samples of fabric and accessories, catalogues, design ideas and a library of useful books. Occasionally vestments, frontals and other items are given to us which are suitable for re-cycling.
We can give advice, instruction and supervision for any work that needs to be carried out. It is appreciated that members of your congregation may not have the expertise to undertake the work, but someone in your community may have these skills and would be very pleased to help. Through encouraging them to participate in this way, they may wish to join in your church activities. If it is not possible for the work to be carried out locally, advice will be given regarding where the work can be undertaken for you.
Occasionally a visit to your church by the Diocesan Textile Adviser, Eileen E Bumphrey, may be necessary and she will advice you if this is the case.
We look forward to seeing you at Diocesan House if you think we can be of help. An appointment is not necessary but it would be useful to know if you wish to come.
