Educating children in one of the
poorest areas of Peru
Each year parishes, schools and individuals are invited to take part in the Diocese of Norwich’s Lent Project (read more). Our project this year is to raise money for the education of children in one of the poorest areas of Peru – Pachacutec.
Jill Bignell, a languages teacher from Saxlingham Nethergate, founded the charity Educateperu to build a school for the poorest children of the country. Peru’s Saxlingham St Mary School opened in March 2008 for 120 4-8 year olds – a little bit of Norfolk in Peru!
At least two more classrooms will be needed each year to accommodate the progressing class of oldest children whilst, at the same time, bringing in some more from the waiting list until the School becomes a full secondary school. The money raised in this year’s Lent Project will be used for this.
